Trending on Twitter last night and this morning was the #FictionalDeathsIWillNeverGetOver tag. Let’s be honest, we all have a movie series or TV show we get so emotionally invested in and attached to, that when one of our favourite characters dies, it does shake us just a little bit.
Here’s a selection of fictional deaths that still haunt the people of Twitter deep down…
[CAUTION: Spoilers may or may not appear… Actually, they most certainly will.]

#FictionalDeathsIWillNeverGetOver Dobby….whyyyyyyyyyyyy
— Tasha Connolly (@supermatasha) June 5, 2013
Starting off with one that will definitely touch a few nerves, poor auld Dobby the House Elf. Over the course of the Harry Potter series it was hard not to adore the lovable and mischievous little House Elf, but alas, he was brutally and tragically taken from us by Bellatrix Lestrange.
RIP Dobby 😦

Another Harry Potter related death that really took everyone by surprise. Although, I think this one in particular will be most notably remembered for the exclamations of “I HAVEN’T F**KING READ THAT FAR YET!!!” when it was brought up in conversation…
#fictionaldeathsiwillnevergetover Marley from Marley and Me. Never. Ever.
— Hugh G Rection (@SirBurns225) June 6, 2013
Marley, the Labrador that stole the hearts of many despite being the most chaotic canine to ever walk the earth. It’s said that even Chuck Norris suffered from a bit of watery eye syndrome with this one.

Controversial. If you’re looking for the Westboro Baptist Church this morning you might wanna try outside this guys house…

Which also brings us nicely to…
#fictionaldeathsiwillnevergetover Eddard Stark

Poor Sean Bean just can’t catch a break at all these days… And speaking of Game of Thrones. I’m not even going to get started on that one.
It all still hurts, George.
#FictionalDeathsIWillNeverGetOver Darren in Love/Hate.. #SadTimes
— Hayley McCarthy (@HayleyMcCarthyx) June 6, 2013
A fictional death that brought the television viewership of Ireland to its knees in a way that wasn’t seen since the days of Glenroe. The life of crime finally caught up with poor Darren and left the nation clamouring for the Nidge-Weasel to be clipped in Season 4.

If this scene doesn’t pull at your heart strings even a little you are one cold and heartless creature, the real life embodiment of Scar himself. Not even the death of Bambi’s mother can rival Mufasa’s in The Lion King.
I think I can feel myself tearing up a little just thinking about it…
For more heart breaking fictional deaths check out #FictionalDeathsIWillNeverGetOver on Twitter, but beware of spoilers and have the tissues on hand just incase.
Honourable mentions also to Sirius Black and Severus Snape (Harry Potter), Michael Scofield (Prison Break), Charlie Pace (LOST) and the entire Twilight character roster. May they enjoy Fictional Character Afterlife.
DISCLAIMER: I don’t know if the entire Twilight character roster died or not, but a man can dream that they all met tragic and painful ends, right?
